RANEPA St. Petersburg researcher and expert joined the international conference in India

On October 7-9, Prof. Dr. Valery Konyshev, Chief Researcher, Head of the Chair of Comparative Political Studies at RANEPA St. Petersburg, participated in the 3-rd International Conference “Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue” which took place in New Delhi (India).

The event addressed prospects for international cooperation on the development of transport corridors from Asia to Europe amidst mounting chaos in the Near and Middle East.

RANEPA St. Petersburg expert noted that the conflict between the USA and Iran, and the involvement of Yemen, have significantly increased risks for the goods transit to Europe via the Suez Canal. Consequently, the International North-South Transport Corridor—currently being developed by the BRICS nations — is taking on particular importance as a primary artery for Eurasia. Furthermore, this route will link the Trans-Arctic transport corridor with that of the Asia-Pacific region.

Responding to EU proposals to Global South nations regarding the creation of transport corridors from Asia to Europe that bypass Russia, Valery Konyshev outlined principles for security ensuring. The scholar also noted that the successful development of the North-South corridor would depend on practical measures to implement the BRICS Framework Agreement on the development of logistics chains, signed in New Delhi at the BRICS summit in September 2026. Key objectives include developing regional technologies and attracting investment, digitalization, and establishing connectivity with other transport corridors.

The Russian Science Foundation project No. 25-48-02046 has been being carried out in collaboration with researchers from Shanghai Maritime University, with organizational support of RANEPA St. Petersburg Research Department.
