A festive event supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held in RANEPA St. Petersburg library and joined public officials, diplomats, academic staff, historians and students from Azerbaijan and St. Petersburg.

On 29 May, Andrey Khlutkov, Director of RANEPA St. Petersburg welcomed the guests and expressed his gratitude to Urhan Alakbarov, rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his support and engagement.

“Our meeting today reflects inextricable ties between our nations, the importance of Russian-Azerbaijani relations. … RANEPA St. Petersburg, for its part, gladly supported the proposal to remember together Heydar Aliyev, a well-known and respected person in both our countries. …I am sure the new generations of professionals educated in our presidential academies will cherish the common heritage and outcomes of work of the most renowned persons of Russia and Azerbaijan, developing and enriching the gained experience”

Elshad Ilyas oglu Gulamov, Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg, emphasized that Heydar Aliyev played an important role in the development of the economy and culture of Azerbaijan and made a great contribution to the implementing the projects that were of importance for the whole USSR.

On behalf of Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, Arbi Abubakarov, Interim Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of St. Petersburg forwarded greetings to all participants.

Speakers told about the main stages of Heydar Aliyev’s life, the key areas of political activity in the Soviet era, his role in the development of the national economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, noted his special contribution to strengthening both Russian-Azerbaijani relations and friendship between peoples of our countries.

Heydar Aliyev studied in Leningrad-St. Petersburg and subsequently visited the city several times as the country leader, attended large-scale events highlighting the special relations and ties of the city with Azerbaijan.
