Discussion at RANEPA St. Petersburg: Sub-Saharan Africa’s future

On 30 March, RANEPA St. Petersburg Faculty of International Relations and Politics* hosted the Round Table “Global vector and prospects for regional development of Sub-Saharan countries”.

Fifteen leading experts from MGIMO University, St. Petersburg State University, Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and RANEPA St.Petersburg joined the event.

The agenda featured a wide range of topical issues: digital transformation, integration processes, security concerns, energy independence, and neo-colonial practices in European foreign policy toward Sub-Saharan Africa. Participants focused on holding onto sovereignty, mechanisms for restoring historical justice, and the impact of global rivalry among major powers on African countries’ resource dependence.

RANEPA St. Petersburg students in International Relations, who focus on African research, received an excellent opportunity to communicate with experts directly, which made the region closer and easy to understand.

*The event co-organizer was also the team of St. Petersburg State University which conduct research under support of the Russian Science Foundation Funding “Sub-Saharan Africa’s Path to Decolonization: The Contemporary Context” No. 25-28-00672.
