RANEPA St. Petersburg welcomed the guest from the Oriental Republic of Uruguay

On 8-20 November, Santiago Caetano, the Uruguayan journalist and researcher, producer and moderator at GPS International (Sputnik News), visited the Faculty of International Relations and Politics to meet students and teachers and gather new experiences.

In Uruguay many people are interested in the history of Russia. Russian immigrants used to live in the small town of San Javier, they were engaged in agriculture and shared their culture and traditions. Uruguayans know many outstanding Russian scientists and key figures in culture.

“At home we talk a lot about Russia, especially about her history and culture. Many people also know St. Petersburg which is a very popular city among those who are interested in world history and global politics. I love St. Petersburg very much, enjoyed metro trips and concerts here.”

Santiago, focusing on international issues, primarily in the economic and political spheres, had an extensive agenda during his stay: master classes on political journalism and editorial convergence, public lectures on research, a joint lecture on the cooperation between Russia and Latin America amid of a global transition to multipolarity.

“We had a lot to discuss. Currently we see lots of new opportunities for the development of Russia — Latin America relations despite of difficulties we face. The students I met here were very active, they asked interesting questions which indicated the great interest of Russian youth in the Latin American region issues and convergent journalism in general. I see that the quality of education at RANEPA St. Petersburg is very high. Students and teachers have a good understanding of subjects we discussed. I should especially note the high level of English enabled us to communicate freely.”
