RANEPA St. Petersburg expert commented in Cape Town to BRICS resilience and capacity amid sanctions

On November 24-26, Valery Konyshev, Chief Researcher, Strategical Planning and Eurasian Integration Research Laboratory, RANEPA St. Petersburg, participated in the international conference “Cape Town Conversation”.

Experts and politicians from Asia, Africa, Latin Amerika and Europe came together to address issues focusing on searching new international cooperation platforms for BRICS and the BRICS+ as key alternatives in the context of modern global governance institutions crisis such as the G20.

Prof. Dr. Konyshev provided a comprehensive analytical perspective emphasizing the objective drivers of the group’s growing influence, enriching the discussion. RANEPA St. Petersburg expert also addressed the internal challenges and the ways how to overcome them in future such as the BRICS Council formatting aimed at coordination of economic cooperation, trade policy and accepting new members. It is also needed to elaborate a unified approach to UN reform aimed at enhancing the role of in the Global South states, and create their own tools in financing, logistics, and technology exchange. The implementation of these tasks, according to the expert, requires political will particularly amid tough counteractions. 

Prof. Dr. Konyshev’s participation in the summit meeting and the meaningful discussion with international colleagues underscore the high level of research conducted and projects implemented at the Presidential Academy in St. Petersburg and their recognition at the international level.
