On October 02-12, Diego Hernández Nilson, PhD, Coordinator of the International Studies Program, Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of the Republic Uruguay (UDELAR), visited RANEPA St. Petersburg for an eventful scientific and pedagogical internship in the framework of cooperation between our universities.
One of key events was the participation in the VII International Ibero-American Forum. Professor Hernandez made the presentation «Latin American secondary powers and the BRICS (the cases of Argentina and Venezuela) » at the section «Latin America in the strategies of the BRICS countries and the Global South», hosted by the Chair of International Relations, RANEPA St. Petersburg. Both this presentation and the online report on cooperation features within the BRICS South-South and North-South lines, presented by Santiago Caetano, the representative of UDELAR, have sparked a lively discussion.
Professor Hernandez also visited Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) where crucial research issues and trilateral cooperation prospects between AARI, RANEPA St. Petersburg and UDELAR were discussed with Aleksander Makarov, Director.
At the Faculty of International Relations and Politics Professor Hernandez gave an open lecture for third-year students on Latin America regional integration and also met with the members of the “Diplomat” Student Club having shared his expert opinion on Latin America foreign policy and his research outcomes as well as specific features of studying international processes in his home university.
This is the third time* that Professor Hernandez has supervised the student project group on Latin American studies. Our students have an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of regional political processes and discuss their research outcomes with a respected, experienced scholar.

Professor Hernandez also visited the Faculty of Social Technologies with the lecture for students in Advertising and PR, Journalism, Media Communications and Sociology. A special memorable event was an interview given to our students and recorded in the Faculty’s media studio.
We express the hope this visit has marked an important milestone in the development of cooperation between UDELAR and the Presidential Academy in St.Petersburg, offering new opportunities for joint initiatives and experience exchange!
