Young diplomats are modeling the future of BRICS

On October 10, the Chair of International Relations under support of the Faculty of International Relations and Politics as well as the Department of Science, RANEPA St. Petersburg, held the business game «Model of the New Development Bank: multipolar projects».

Over 40 students from the leading Russian universities including St. Petersburg State University, the Russian State University for the Humanities, the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, MGIMO University and RANEPA St. Petersburg came together to simulate the meeting of one of the key BRICS + bodies for financing strategic projects amid geopolitical turbulence and de-dollarisation processes.

Students teams simulated not only the national governments of BRICS+ country members but also international mass media which highlighted the negotiations and asked provocative questions.

Students shared:

I found the idea of the model as a platform for discussing current international issues and sharing opinions between young professionals extremely interested.

Ilya Kalinichev, Master’s student, MGIMO / the UAE delegation member

I’m grateful to the mass media for their questions, provocative public statements, and the channel posts. They managed to cover almost all the important issues and convey the atmosphere of real media.

Renata Kleshneva, Bachelor’s student in International Relations, RANEPA St. Petersburg / Bangladesh delegation member

What I liked most about the Model was the behind-the-scenes moments and free-flowing negotiations. We agreed on cooperation with Bangladesh and conducted a campaign with Russian and American media.

Aleksander Prokofiev, Bachelor’s student in International Relations, RANEPA St. Petersburg / Hungary mass media representative

The participants demonstrated a high level of analytical and diplomatic skills by presenting substantive projects reflecting the strategic priorities of BRICS+ countries. The young diplomats’ work was evaluated by an expert jury who unanimously noted the thorough preparation and high motivation of all participants.
